Man Wounded In Shooting, Pair Arrested In Atlantic City

A man was shot, a suspect is sought and a pair was arrested on separate weapons charges, authorities said.

On Saturday, April 8, at 8:42 p.m., Atlantic City police responded to the 800 block of Indiana Avenue for a ShotSpotter alert. 

As officers were responding, an SUV was observed fleeing the area at a high rate of speed. Police stopped the vehicle at Ohio and Atlantic Avenues. The driver, 32, of Galloway, had sustained a gunshot wound and the vehicle showed evidence of gunfire, police said.

The officers carried the victim into AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Division, to receive treatment for a non-life-threatening injury.

Officers located a loaded handgun inside the vehicle. A passenger, Alicia Gillard, was taken into custody. Detectives later arrested a 17-year-old male as part of the investigation into the weapon.

This remains an active investigation being conducted by the Violent Crimes Unit.

Gilliard, 36, of Atlantic City. and the teenager from Mays Landing were charged with obstruction of justice and weapons offenses, police said.

The youth was sent to Harborfields Detention Facility.
